Shadows and Directions

The podium design backdrops were born to create a unique illusion in photos by simulating 3D podiums in different heights and with its shadows effect.

In order to get the most realistic illusion, make sure to follow the shadows which printed in high resolution as part of the backdrop.

So how it’s done?

Make sure that the shadow from your object is falling in the same direction as the printed shadows.

Right-way, same shadow direction

If your object is too flat, take something bigger and use it to correct your surface angle. Rotate the surface until you’ll find that angle, then you can remove the extra object.

Make sure that the shoot is taken from the top, only flat lay (top view) will give it the right 3D illusion while frontal view will reveal the 2D of the surface.

Sometimes we use projectors and reflectors to control lights and the shadows but in this case, you better not using it, they will flatten the object and the result may seem like a badly retouched photo.

In the photo above, the item looks paste (like it was Photoshoped in to the scene) since the shadows are barely visible.

The podiums backdrop will work best for jewelry, cosmetics, beauty accessories, small decorations, and small dishes and desserts.
Make sure to give the items on the podium air and don’t overload each one of them.
